Less That Two Weeks Until the End of the World

by Shane White

The Mayan Long Calendar is set to end on December 21, 2012. That is less than two weeks away. Many people believe that this is the date that a huge catastrophic event will occur destroying much of the earth or causing something else equally inconvenient. While I have my doubts that the Mayan's have predicted the End of the World, often times, truth is stranger than fiction. What if they did know something beyond having to go to the Mayan Calendar Kiosk at the local mall for a new calendar?

I have been reading many articles showing the uncertainty of many people all over the world. In the United States, NASA has felt the need to debunk the Mayan doomsday prophecy. In Russia, China, and other countries, panic buying has begun in preparation for this date while their governments attempt to reassure their citizens. Australia's Prime Minister joked that the end of the world was coming later this month. There are also talks of groups making suicide pacts. Many are taking this date very seriously.

I have concerns that this worldwide panic may spread in the upcoming days in varying degrees. If you don't have supplies now, you may possibly have problems finding them in the next few weeks. If this threat was in fact a real threat that everyone was aware of and you were not ready, you could possibly be in big trouble. There are already reports in some places in the world where the shelves have been emptied because they consider the Mayan doomsday prophecy a real threat.

Here is my point. Lets say that some amateur astronomer found a large asteroid that appeared to be headed towards earth and looked like it could do enough damage to wipe out a few hundred miles and change the climate of the earth for a couple of years. This news spreads and is confirmed before it is quickly hushed by the media. By then it is too late. Everybody is rushing to the stores to get all the supplies that they can get. Now it is too late for you to buy your own supplies. This is why I stress being ready now. Be ready before the news of a catastrophe reaches everybody. Being ready now means the difference between your survival and you fighting on the streets for your families next meal. This is not where you want to be.

If you have less than two weeks ready to eat food in your home, you need to go get some right away. Beyond this, you need to analyze your needs and plan accordingly. There are multiple resources around the net that can help you to determine what your needs will be. You need food, supplies, and knowledge. Be sure to come back to The Doomsday Moose often. We are continually learning and trying to help you to prepare for the inevitable. There are also many other excellent sources that can help you along your way.

If the Mayan Doomsday prophecy was true and you were not prepared, you are already too late. Better start planning for the next one. Good luck and happy prepping!

  1. I know at some point in time the big day will come but its not in two weeks I think the Mayan Long Calendar is set to end on December 21, 2012 because when it was made they did not know were to stop so they picked this date because they didnt know if we would even be around still. If you look back in History time and time again the world was going to end we as humans want it to for some reason now most will say no and im sure they dont even know they do but this is nothing new. I still like to be ready but I think if you put to much energy out there that the world is going to end soon we might just bring it on our self's

  3. I am pretty sure all that will happen on the 21st is some Mayan's will be at the mall shopping for a new calendar. If anything good comes out of their calendar ending the way it does, it would be that it raised awareness of the need to be prepared for catastrophic events.
