There are lots of ways in which you can create your own clothing. One method is to purchase the material and then design your clothing from patterns. Another solution is to manufacture your own materials. Here are some of the ways that you can create your own clothing on your homestead.

Use Recycled Soda Containers

Some clothing is being manufactured out of recycled soda bottles. The bottles are ground up and pulverized so that they can be used as a base when mixed with other types of thread. These fibers will offer you a little bit of waterproof protection when you’re outside of your homestead. Fleece is often the material of choice that’s paired with the recycled plastic. This will make it softer for your skin and give it some breathability.

Manufacture Organic Wool

One of the more common forms of material used on homesteading is with wool. You can raise your own sheep and shear them yourself. This is more of the more environmentally friendly means to making your own clothing and other types of materials. If you decide to go this route, make sure to have the wool thoroughly cleaned by a farm services contractor before you start to make it into threads for your clothing.

Cotton is Versatile

In many areas of the country, you may be able to grow your own cotton plants. It tends to do better in warmer climates. The plants produce the balls of cotton when the seed bursts. This is a good way to get the raw materials for you to make your own clothing on your homestead. The good thing about cotton is that it’s one of the most versatile types of material. It works well with any type of clothing.

Hemp Crafts Well

Hemp is fairly easy to grow and the fibers already work well for making your own threads to use on the loam. The problem with this type of material is that it may be a little scratchy for your clothing. You may want to pair it with some other type of material in order to reduce some of the more unpleasant aspects of the plant. Another benefit to growing hemp is that you’ll be able to make rope and other useful products for around your homestead.

Select a material or several different types of materials so that you can create your own clothing for any season. This can help you to be more self-reliant on your homestead.
