If you’re concerned about home defense, it’s important to have the right tools in your arsenal. While any firearm is better than nothing when your home is being invaded, it’s always better to have the right gun for a given situation available to you if you should need it. Here are four of the firearms that will help to round out your home defense preparations.
High-Capacity Bullpup Shotgun
In the last few years, bullpup shotguns that accept large numbers of shells have become more widely available. These shotguns are easy to carry and maneuver and offer more than enough firepower for any home invasion. Models such as the Kel-Tec KSG and the UTAS UTS-15 stand out in this category.
When it comes to home defense, it’s hard to go wrong with a good, reliable 9-mm pistol. Manufacturers such as Glock make several different versions of this pistol caliber, giving buyers quite a few options to choose from. One of the best firearms in this category is the Beretta M9, which is the standard pistol of the US military.
As good as full-size rifles like the AK-47 and AR-15 are for long-range shooting, they don’t stack up quite as well in a home defense situation because of how cumbersome they are in enclosed environments. For a home defense rifle, a Freedom Ordnance FX-9 carbine is often a better choice. If you don’t have the resources to buy several guns at once, buying a new carbine is often the best initial investment you can make in terms of home defense.
.22 Pistol or Rifle
Many people disregard .22 as a caliber, believing it to be too weak for personal or home defense. The facts, however, don’t bear out this interpretation. .22 LR can be quite effective in producing one-shot stops, and it is less expensive than most other ammunition. As a result, you can take your .22 firearm out to the range much more often on the same budget and get more comfortable with it. Even with its lighter load, a .22 gun that you can shoot with high precision will be a more effective tool in your hands than a high-caliber model you can’t afford to practice with regularly.
If you want to improve your home defense arsenal, buying these four types of firearms can help. In addition to the guns themselves, be sure to purchase plenty of ammunition, as well as an appropriate gun safe that will let you store them safely.
