The Basics To Include In Your SHTF Survival Kit

One day, Doomsday will arrive and send our world into a state of chaos. There are going to be two types of people on that day – those who prepared ahead of time and those who did not. Even if you believe that the SHTF day will not come for a while, it’s well worth your time to start preparing your survival kit.

Unfortunately, we’ve heard from many people who end up overcomplicating things when compiling their SHTF survival kit. When SHTF, you’re likely going to need to move from one location to another. You need to be practical in your training.

When the day comes, we’re likely going to lose all access to electronics. The world as we know it today will be no more. Those who are most prepared have the best chance of survival. Below, we’ve provided you with a few of the basics that you’ll want to include in your SHTF survival kit.

Maps, Compasses, And Guidebooks

When SHTF, one of the first thing we’re going to lose is access to GPS. We won’t be able to ask Siri or Google to navigate us to our destination. Instead, we’re going to have to get there the old-fashion way. We recommend having detailed maps and guidebooks readily available at your disposal to help you navigate to your compound or safehouse. A compass is an essential tool as well.

More importantly, don’t wait until Doomsday to start looking at these products! Plan your escape route ahead of time. Trace it on your map. Walk the routes. And come up with alternative ways in case your initial path is blocked. Also, make sure that you know how to use a compass. When Doomsday arrives, you’re not going to have time to stop and think. Your preparation and training will need to kick into gear if you wish to survive.

Flashlights are another product that you’ll want to have when SHTF, as we will no longer have access to electricity. However, if you find yourself in a survival situation, you’re not going to want to have a cheap plastic flashlight that provides you with a dull beam of light. Instead, you’ll want to have access to a tactical flashlight, designed explicitly for survival situations. Tactical flashlights are:

  • Compact
  • Lightweight
  • Durable

Take, for instance, the Handheld LED Tactical Flashlight from SOLARAY. This product uses an ultra-bright CREE XML-T6-powered LED with an astounding 1.2 lumens, allowing you to see more than 1,000 feet away. The product is also water-resistant and rugged. During our testing, we dropped it from ten feet, ran over it with a truck, and put it in the freezer. The flashlight worked perfectly after every test.

Perhaps best of all is the fact that the flashlight is a slim 6.25” x 1.1” x 1.5” and weighs less than five ounces. Since you’re going to be carrying loads of gear with you in your Doomsday kit, you don’t have space to waste on a heavy flashlight. A tactical flashlight is easy to take with you when it’s time to travel.

Many Doomsday preppers feel that they need to stock up on firearms, and there’s certainly some merit to that belief. Guns will go a long way toward providing security and protecting your family. It can also help you find food if need be. But what are you going to do if you run out of ammunition? And what are you going to do if you need to relocate? Are you going to carry numerous heavy weapons with you?

When SHTF, knives will be some of the most useful tools that you can have at your disposal. Blades allow you to perform numerous tasks, from cutting rope to field-dressing wild game. We highly recommend tactical knives instead of hunting knives for survival situations. Manufacturers product tactical knives that are lightweight and foldable so that you can carry them easily. Foldable knives are easy to store in pockets or on belt loops.

Many tactical knives come with additional features that help make them extra-versatile. For instance, the BlizeTec Survival Knife is an all-in-one tool that comes with the following:

  • Drop-point blade with a serrated saw
  • Magnesium-alloy fire starter
  • Bright LED flashlight
  • Blade lock
  • Window breaker
  • Seatbelt cutter

Rope Or A Paracord Bracelet

Rope is another tool that you’ll want to have an abundance of when SHTF. For instance, you could use cord to help build a shelter or raft. You could also use it to rappel down a cliff or ravine. If you find yourself in the wilderness, you could use the rope to secure a premises, as it would function as trip-wire. If need be, you could also use cord as a fishing line, fishing net, clothing line, or food line.

One of the best ways to ensure that you have access to enough rope at all times is with a paracord bracelet, such as this model from X-Plore Gear. Have a bracelet ready for each member of your family in your kit. When you break the plastic clasp of the bracelet, you’ll have immediate access to at least ten feet of rope. The bracelets also contain features such as a compass and safety whistle, which can help keep you safe when SHTF.
