Fresh Water: How to Maintain a Well on Your Property
Freshwater is extremely important to maintaining your health. If you have a well on your property, you need to take certain steps to ensure that it remains usable. Here are some of the things that you need to do in order to maintain a well on your property.
Keep It Covered
When you stop and consider what a well is, it just makes sense to keep it covered. This could come in the form of a standard concrete cover or even in the form of a pump house. No matter which solution that you decide to go with, this will afford you the greatest amount of protection. Another benefit is that you won’t have people or animals accidently falling into it. This could cause your water to become contaminated as well as being a safety hazard.
Invest in Preventative Maintenance

There are steps that you need to take on a regular basis in order to maintain your well. You may want to consider having your well water tested for the presence of bacteria from time to time. Another thing to consider is having regular maintenance for wells performed. This could be that you flush the pumping system or even that you hire someone to perform this task for you on a set schedule. You’ll also want to look for cracking and wear and tear on the structure of your well.
Avoid Runoff Situations
Depending on the placement of your well, water could be creeping into your system. This may be putting you at risk to develop an illness. The placement of your well and the sealing system that you have to avoid water runoff contamination is important. Look into using some kind of product that will prevent this type of situation from developing. It may be in your best interests to replace your well with one that will be less problematic.
Perform Regular Inspections
You’ll need to perform regular inspections on your well system. This is to ensure that only the freshest water is coming out of your taps. Cracks and other problems can begin to develop over the years with your well. As a part of maintaining your well, implement an inspection schedule into your routine. You may want to consider hiring a professional that will use special equipment to check the interior of your well system.
With a well, the responsibility for maintaining your water quality falls on your shoulders. Use these tips so that you can continue to have fresh water in your home.
